Blacksmith’s aren’t in the business of making cheap, here one day gone the next items. North Star Blacksmithing make things the old fashioned way so that they can be proud of putting their names to them.
These firepits are no different. They’re made out of ridiculously oversized solid iron plate (5mm thick on the big sizes, over three times thicker than what you’ll find cluttering up a garden centre). At North Star Blacksmith, they handforge their firepits in their Cotswold forge.
Why’s that important? It means they weigh a ton! So they’ll last a lifetime but are also much more efficient at heating- a heavy base takes the fires heat and radiates it straight at the surrounding area, lighter versions lose most of their heat as convection. It’s like the difference between an open fire and a heavy woodburner.
Please note these fire bowls are extremely heavy, around 45kg in the largest size. We suggest using two people to move them.
